Apply: federal government ALAT skill innovation program for MSME

In an effort to support the technological revolution in Nigeria and expand economic and social interactions while boosting productivity, the federal government and ALAT have introduced the Skillnovation Programme. This initiative aims to equip over three million Nigerians with vital digital skills necessary for success in the global economy. Vice President Kashim Shettima, during the launch at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, described Skillnovation as a transformative step toward empowering Nigerians in the digital era. He emphasized the necessity of digital skills in today’s evolving business landscape, acknowledging their pivotal role in economic growth and development.

The Skillnovation Programme will establish 15 state-of-the-art ICT centers strategically located across Nigeria, providing individuals and businesses with access to cutting-edge digital training, resources, and support. The first phase will focus on Katsina, Anambra, Borno, Lagos, Oyo, and Kano, while the second phase will cover Delta, Kaduna, Ogun, Bauchi, Kwara, and Ekiti. The vice president highlighted the potential of Nigeria’s expanding MSME sector and stressed that the Skillnovation Programme aims to unlock this potential, offering essential tools and skills for MSMEs to compete globally.

Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, the senior special assistant to the president on job creation and MSMEs, emphasized the significance of partnerships in addressing the challenges faced by Nigerians, recognizing that government efforts alone are insufficient. The managing director of Wema Bank, Mr. Moruf Oseni, praised the government’s dedication to empowering young Nigerians and announced plans to establish skills training centers across 17 states, beginning with Lagos and Borno. He projected direct impacts on two million youths and one million small businesses across the benefiting states.

Furthermore, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijjani, highlighted President Tinubu’s administration’s intent to leverage the enthusiasm of youths in the technology space, aiming to position Nigeria as a global power in the sector.
