Microsoft has committed $1 million to provide artificial intelligence (AI) training to one million Nigerians, showcasing its dedication to enhancing digital skills and workforce readiness in Nigeria. The announcement was made during the Microsoft AI Tour in Lagos, a global event series designed to bring together business leaders, technical specialists, and AI enthusiasts to explore AI’s transformative potential.
This investment supports Nigeria’s National AI Strategy and broader efforts to establish the country as a global leader in AI adoption. With Nigeria’s AI market projected to grow annually by 27.08% from 2025 to 2030, the initiative aims to close the digital skills gap, improve employability, and drive economic development.
Training programs will be developed in partnership with the Nigerian government to promote accessible education in AI, cybersecurity, and digital literacy. Ola Williams, Microsoft’s Managing Director for Nigeria and Ghana, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enabling individuals and organizations through AI-driven learning. Williams emphasized that this effort goes beyond skill development to foster innovation and spur industrial transformation.
Inclusivity is a major focus, with special attention given to empowering youth and women to ensure equal access to digital opportunities. By 2026, Microsoft plans to train one million Nigerians, including business leaders and government officials, equipping them with AI skills to drive industrial and technological progress.
Williams also noted that the initiative seeks to uplift entire communities by democratizing AI education, aligning with Nigeria’s larger economic vision of supporting digital businesses and preparing the workforce for the future.
