Job Summary

The Shift Engineer, Power Plant, is responsible for overseeing and managing the operations of the assigned shift to ensure the optimal and uninterrupted functioning of the power plant. This role entails supervising equipment, managing emergencies, and maintaining operational excellence to ensure the plant runs efficiently and safely.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Shift Supervision:
    • Lead and manage shift operations for the assigned section of the power plant to guarantee smooth and efficient functioning.
    • Ensure plant operations meet safety and efficiency standards at all times.
  2. Operational Monitoring:
    • Monitor and control operational parameters for all equipment within the assigned area to ensure they remain within optimal thresholds.
    • Record and maintain detailed logs of all operational activities and parameter readings.
  3. Emergency Handling:
    • Respond promptly to emergencies in the assigned area, ensuring issues are managed effectively to prevent prolonged downtime or damage to plant assets.
    • Assist the Shift Manager during emergencies by executing swift corrective actions as required.
  4. Control Room Operations:
    • Take full responsibility for the operation of the control room during assigned shifts.
    • Handle Distributed Control System (DCS) operations independently to ensure system integrity and efficiency.
  5. System Startups and Shutdowns:
    • Manage startups and shutdowns of various process and service units with precision, ensuring there is no disruption to operational units that remain online.
  6. BOP Area Management:
    • Oversee operations in the Balance of Plant (BOP) area and ensure its smooth functionality during the shift.
  7. Housekeeping and Record Keeping:
    • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring the assigned area remains free of hazards.
    • Maintain comprehensive records of all activities, maintenance logs, and key operational parameters for control room analysis.
  8. SOP Development:
    • Prepare and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that cover system descriptions, operating procedures, logics, and interlocks for the assigned area.
    • Conduct in-house training sessions on SOPs to ensure team familiarity and compliance.
  9. Continuous Improvement:
    • Update records of maintenance history and operational performance, ensuring they are accessible for analysis and process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Power Systems or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in gas-based power plant operations, including at least 2 years of hands-on experience in a control room environment.
