The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising fifteen West African nations. Established on May 28, 1975, through the signing of the Treaty of Lagos, its primary objective is to foster economic integration and cooperation across member states.

ECOWAS is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the following position:

Position Overview

Under the guidance of an assigned supervisor, the IT Assistant will provide technical support to both internal and external users. The selected candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining ECOWAS’ IT and computer network systems, ensuring their efficiency and security. The role also encompasses supporting computer operations, managing user access, resolving technical issues, and assisting in the maintenance of databases and digital infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct diagnostic testing on personal computers and peripherals to determine software or hardware-related issues.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for IT-related inquiries, ensuring effective resolution of user concerns.
  • Maintain an organized filing system for quick access to technical documents.
  • Assist in upgrading and maintaining both software and hardware infrastructure.
  • Optimize PC performance through regular maintenance and system updates.
  • Support the maintenance of internet services, firewalls, and telephone systems.
  • Configure, install, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software, networks, and peripherals.
  • Provide fundamental technical support, including repairs and preventive maintenance for IT equipment such as microcomputers, printers, and storage devices.
  • Assist in deploying secure email systems, domain name servers (DNS), and data protection solutions.
  • Investigate patterns in service requests to improve problem-resolution strategies.
  • Facilitate technical training sessions for end-users when necessary.
  • Provide after-hours technical support when required.
  • Research and recommend new technology solutions to enhance IT service delivery.
  • Monitor service desk tickets to identify recurring technical issues and areas for process improvement.
  • Maintain up-to-date records and documentation regarding IT policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless IT operations within the ECOWAS framework.
  • Perform any other IT-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Brevet de Technicien Supérieur (BTS), Ordinary National Diploma (OND), or an equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
  • At least five (5) years of progressive work experience in IT infrastructure management, network administration, and technical support.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux operating systems, as well as Active Directory implementation.
  • Experience with Storage Area Networks (SAN), Direct-Attached Storage (DAS), and Network-Attached Storage (NAS) solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with VoIP, intrusion detection systems, vulnerability assessment tools, and network traffic analysis.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols, VPN setup, and remote system administration.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and methods for securing IT infrastructure.
  • Understanding of open-source and proprietary network security management tools.
  • Competency in Cisco networking technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPN concentrators.
  • Prior experience in virtual infrastructure management for business continuity purposes.
  • Ability to develop and document IT procedures and process improvements.

Age Requirement

  • Applicants must be below 50 years old at the time of application.
  • This requirement does not apply to internal candidates.

    • UA 25,527.53 / USD 40,277.34
