JOB TITLE: Tax Manager
SECTOR: Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) – Manufacturing
REPORTS TO: Head of Tax
WORK LOCATION: BUA Group Headquarters, Lagos
INTERNAL RELATIONS: All Departments
EXTERNAL RELATIONS: Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), State Internal Revenue Services, and External Auditors


POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Tax Manager plays a strategic role in ensuring BUA Group adheres to all tax regulations and reporting requirements, while optimizing the company’s tax position in alignment with its complex business operations. The role demands hands-on involvement in tax compliance, audits, reporting, and advisory, contributing directly to the financial integrity and risk management framework of the organization.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the accurate and timely filing of all statutory taxes, including but not limited to Corporate Income Tax, Education Tax, Withholding Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), and Personal Income Tax.
  • Ensure full compliance with Transfer Pricing regulations, including documentation, transaction analysis, and returns filing for all related-party transactions.
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts to identify and address tax-related entries, ensuring proper accruals and necessary adjustments.
  • Oversee the preparation of income tax reports, focusing on deferred tax analysis and reconciliation of effective tax rates with corporate strategy.
  • Examine contracts and operational agreements to detect tax inefficiencies and provide advisory to optimize fiscal outcomes.
  • Scrutinize fixed asset records and associated documentation to support the application and acquisition of the Certificate of Acceptance of Fixed Assets (CAFA), maintaining professional interactions with relevant consultants.
  • Supervise and support tax officers in their daily functions and professional development, ensuring team competence and compliance accuracy.
  • Coordinate responses to queries from FIRS and state tax authorities, ensuring timely and effective communication to avert penalties.
  • Manage tax audits and investigations with minimal disruption to business operations, ensuring full compliance and effective risk mitigation.
  • Perform any additional functions as assigned by the Head of Tax in support of departmental goals and organizational objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A Bachelor’s or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Economics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive, post-qualification experience in tax management or corporate finance.
  • Professional certification is mandatory—ACCA, ACA, or ACTI required.
