The Public Diplomacy Section of the United States Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, invites organizations to participate in a competitive selection process for a project designed to expand access to U.S. higher education for academically talented but economically disadvantaged Nigerian students, at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Grant Overview
The U.S. Embassy Higher Education Grant Opportunity focuses on establishing standard advising centers and providing financial support to assist students with the application process.
The selected implementing organization will work closely with Education Specialists from the Public Diplomacy Section in Abuja and Lagos to support the 2025-26 Education Advising Program in Nigeria, including the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program. Additionally, the organization will collaborate with Standard Advising Centers located in Calabar, Jos, Ibadan, and Kano.
Eligibility Criteria
Organizations eligible to apply include:
- Non-profit entities, including think tanks and non-governmental or civil society organizations.
- Public and private educational institutions.
- Governmental and international public organizations.
Additional Requirements
- All applicants must possess a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) issued through SAM.gov and maintain valid registration in SAM.gov.
- Each organization may submit only one proposal. Multiple submissions from the same organization will result in disqualification.
Benefits
The U.S. Embassy Education Grant is designed to support 40 high-achieving, low-income Nigerian students who are strong candidates for full financial aid from U.S. colleges and universities but lack the means to cover essential costs.
Covered expenses include:
- Standardized test fees.
- Application fees.
- Airfare.
- Visa and SEVIS fees.
- Initial settlement costs.
The implementing partner will work with the EducationUSA network in Abuja and Lagos under the guidance of the Country Education Specialist throughout the project period.
