Apply. African Union internship program 2024

Applications are currently being accepted for the 2024 African Union (AU) Internship Program. The AU, established as a unique Pan-African continental body, aims to foster Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development. Headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the AU invites citizens of Member States to apply for its Internship Program, which focuses on building organizational capacity and implementing its structure.

The purpose of the internship is to provide individuals with diverse academic backgrounds a full-time opportunity to gain professional exposure within the AU, promoting respect for diversity and teamwork. Participants are expected to develop their professional skills, interact with various cultural backgrounds, and contribute to the AU’s objectives.

The program aims to expose interns to the AU’s workings early in their careers, fostering personal and professional growth. Interns gain hands-on experience in various applicable fields in an intercultural environment, potentially becoming a grooming ground for future African leaders.

Interns play a role in providing administrative and technical support for the effective implementation of AU programs, projects, and activities across various departments and directorates.

Eligibility requirements include active enrollment in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program or holding a Bachelor’s or advanced/postgraduate qualification in a related field. Applicants must be nationals of AU Member States, fluent in at least one AU working language, and no more than thirty-two years old at the time of selection. Moral integrity is emphasized, and prior work experience is not mandatory.

Terms and conditions outline that the AU will not bear financial obligations for interns, who are responsible for travel, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns may receive assistance with entry and residence visas, but compensation for travel is not provided. The internship is authorized for three months, renewable once, and interns must have individual insurance coverage throughout.

Applications are submitted online, requiring relevant information and supporting documents such as a motivation letter, valid passport or identity card, certified academic certificates, current CV, and a recommendation letter for the internship. Successful applicants receive email confirmation of their submission.
