Job Description
The Safety Officer will ensure that relevant SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) resources and personnel are available to support daily departmental needs. The role involves coordinating SHE activities in assigned areas, reporting performance, incidents, accidents, and progress towards departmental and factory targets to the SHE Manager.
Responsibilities
Support the Safety Manager in coordinating SHE Management Systems across the plant, head office, and external warehouses, in line with company standards, OHSAS 45001, and ISO 14001 EMS.
Collaborate with heads of departments and administrative teams to identify and control occupational and environmental hazards in offices and warehouses.
Follow up on agreed safety measures to ensure safe working practices.
Oversee the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials across facilities.
Assist the Safety Manager in communicating relevant local and organizational SHE standards to employees, contractors, and visitors.
Help implement SHE programs at the plant, head office, warehouses, and in contractor management.
Participate in identifying hazards, reporting near-misses, and addressing unsafe actions in the workplace.
Requirements
B.Sc/HND in Engineering, Sciences, or Humanities.
3-5 years of relevant FMCG operational and maintenance experience (required).
Proficiency in Hausa language (required).
Knowledge of bottling operations, including Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Environment Engineering, Health, and Safety.
Basic HSE Certification and NEBOSH required.
Membership in ISPON (Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria).
Ability to influence situations without direct control over resources.
Strong understanding of HQSE procedures and standards.
Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and GHK (5S) standards.
Excellent communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
