UNICEF Equity-Free Funding Opportunity for Startups Empowering Women and Girls

The UNICEF Venture Fund is providing an exceptional opportunity for early-stage, for-profit startups that are leveraging frontier technologies to drive social impact. This initiative focuses on enhancing health, well-being, and socio-economic participation for women and girls, particularly through innovations in artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and blockchain.

Funding and Support

Selected startups will receive up to $100,000 in equity-free funding, allowing them to develop Open Source technology with the potential to transform lives. The fund strategically identifies and supports emerging technology “clusters,” equipping UNICEF to shape markets, influence technological advancements, and enhance the lives of children and their communities.

Who Can Apply?

UNICEF is seeking early-stage, for-profit startups that are using cutting-edge technologies to tackle key challenges in three primary areas:

1. Improving Health Outcomes for Women and Girls

Startups developing innovative digital health solutions are encouraged to apply, particularly those focused on:

  • Digital health innovations for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • AI-driven and data-powered platforms supporting maternal, reproductive, and adolescent health.
  • On-demand referral services providing access to healthcare and culturally relevant information.

2. Addressing Unique Challenges Faced by Women and Girls

Startups working on solutions to overcome gender-based barriers can contribute through:

  • Closing the gender data gap to enable more inclusive decision-making.
  • Enhancing accessibility of platforms, especially for underserved communities and persons with disabilities.
