Position Overview

ECOWAS is currently seeking a System Administrator who will be responsible for managing and maintaining IT systems, ensuring their optimal performance, security, and reliability. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing IT service quality, supporting stakeholders, and promoting digital transformation within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Technical and System Administration

  • Ensure smooth operation of IT systems, including servers, networks, databases, and software applications.
  • Implement security protocols to protect ECOWAS IT infrastructure from cyber threats and unauthorized access.
  • Monitor system performance, identify potential risks, and take preventive measures to minimize disruptions.
  • Conduct regular maintenance, updates, and patches to ensure the reliability and efficiency of IT resources.
  • Provide technical support to end-users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

Stakeholder Engagement and Support

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and subordinates to enhance teamwork and collaboration.
  • Contribute to maintaining departmental performance standards, ensuring all assigned tasks align with organizational objectives.
  • Proactively communicate with clients, keeping them informed about project progress, challenges, and timelines.
  • Foster trust-based relationships with clients by engaging in meaningful discussions and demonstrating a commitment to their needs.

Professional Credibility and Advisory Role

  • Build credibility with stakeholders by anticipating challenges, mitigating risks, and offering timely solutions.
  • Provide expert advice and consultation on IT-related matters, ensuring compliance with industry best practices.
  • Act as a mentor and guide for junior staff, offering support and constructive feedback to enhance team performance.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related ICT field from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in system administration, IT infrastructure management, or technical support roles.
  • Strong knowledge of ECOWAS institutions, sectors, policies, and operational requirements.
  • Proficiency in managing complex IT systems, including cloud platforms, virtualization, and enterprise software.
  • Experience with cybersecurity best practices, network administration, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify system inefficiencies and implement improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to analyze data, detect trends, and provide actionable recommendations to improve system performance.

Age Requirement

  • Applicants must be under 50 years old at the time of application. (This requirement does not apply to internal candidates.)

  • Fluency in one of ECOWAS’s official languages (English, French, or Portuguese). (Knowledge of an additional language is an advantage.)

  • Ability to develop and implement individual action plans to achieve set goals and objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage workloads, and meet deadlines.
  • Capability to identify key performance indicators (KPIs), track progress, and recommend corrective actions when necessary.

    • UA 56,591.37 / USD 89,289.87 (based on experience and qualifications)
