Job Description of the Agronomist III
The following are the job description of the Agronomist III
*Intermediate Function: The Agronomist III, under the direct supervision of the Deputy Economic Security Coordinator will serve as the the focal point between the country EcoSec programme and the field (Agro programme in sub delegations).
*Agro-Programme Contribution: The Agronomist III will contribute towards the design of the Agro programme by coordinating the needs assessment and consolidates the respective Sub delegations’ needs into the country Agro needs overview, which is used to develop the National Agro response plan.
*Coordination and Supervision: the Agronomist will carry out a coordination and supervision of the activities that surround the implementation of the agriculture structural support programmes and capacity building activities implemented with third parties and facilitates coordination with line ministries of the government of Nigeria.
*Humanitarian Contribution: the applicant for this role will contribute immensely to the humanitarian context analysis and Agro situational analysis in the regions of interest for the organization branch in Nigeria, by supporting the Agro situational assessment in the priority zones of the sub-delegation using the available standardized tools developed and adapted to the Nigeria context.
*Agro Strategy: the Agronomist will contribute to the development and design of the Nigeria EcoSec Agro strategy and the Agro country response plan.
*Agro Programme Activity Planning: the applicant will contribute to the Agro program activity planning and the implementation across the participating sub-delegations. He or she will support the Agro operations of sub delegations, whenever requested, particularly to provide handy support on technical processes where coaching of the field staff and additional Human resource skill is needed.
*Agro Structural Support: the applicant will contribute to the implementation of the Agro structural support programmes which involves the Ministry of Agriculture and government parastatals collaborating on agriculture programs with the organization. The applicant will contribute to the institutional needs assessment of the MoA structures earmarked for structural support and capacity building intervention and develops a realistic response planning for the identified entity.
*Harmonization of Agro Programme: the Agronomist will contributes to the development and harmonization of the management tools of the Agro programme. The applicant will do this by supporting the adoption of tools developed for effective programme assessment, monitoring and reporting throughout the country, working in close collaboration with the A&E team.
*Agro Programme Documentation: the Agronomist will equally contribute to the Agro programme documentation and reporting (MoMs, FTRs, PDM, PHM etc), project proposal and action plans. The applicant will function as the Agro institutional memory of the Agro file in Nigeria. He or she will familiarize himself or herself with all agriculture interventions made by organization in the country and can explain the rationale and strategy behind all Agro undertakings in the country.
*Seed Quality Assurance: the Agronomist will supports the establishment and improvement of seed quality assurance processes for the organization for all seeds procured and distributed in-kind, as well as for agro seed voucher programs and seed fairs. This will also include seed quality monitoring activities by participating in and coordinating seed sampling and re-testing campaigns, with the support of NASC and the Logistics Department.
*Farmers Education: the Agronomist will support the improvement of farmers’ knowledge on crop production activities and the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices, through the establishment of systems and facilities that will be deployed for practical field demonstration sessions.
*Capacity Development: the applicant for this opening will as well support and contribute to the knowledge capacity development of relevant agricultural stakeholders like the Ministries of Agriculture Extension Workers and NASC, amongst others.
*Contribution to Farmer’s Access to Seedlings: the Agronomist III will via his immense contribution towards farmers’ access to certified quality seeds ensure that the contacts between seed producers and the local farmers is enforced through the organization, piloting and scalability of agro seed voucher interventions across locations deemed feasible, as well as studying, understanding, and strengthening community-based seed production systems in Nigeria.
Academic Qualifications, Requirements and Skills
*Applicant must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy, with a minimum of 5 year work experience in the fields of food security and agricultural livelihood.
*Applicant must possess a good command of the English language and Hausa Language accompanied by a great writing skill.
*Applicant must be proficient in the use of the computer with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
*Applicant should equally come handy with a more than 5 years professional experience in Agricultural programming and at least 2 years in management of Agricultural response especially in a humanitarian or private sector setting.
*Applicants should be a Nigerian with valid means of identification or hold a work permit for non-Nigerians.
