Role Overview:
The Manager – Messaging Platforms will be tasked with leading the design, planning, deployment, optimization, and commissioning of the messaging platforms. These include SMS Routers, SMS Firewalls, and related security services. The role involves ensuring these processes meet business timelines, budget constraints, and quality standards. This position also focuses on expanding and monetizing the messaging platforms and planning future-proof systems aligned with global technology trends and business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of efficient and effective messaging platforms (SMS Routers, Firewalls, etc.) in alignment with business needs, deadlines, and budgets.
- Oversee the expansion and monetization of messaging platforms, ensuring they are scalable and future-proof.
- Define a technology roadmap that aligns with global trends and supports Bayobab’s expansion.
- Act as a technical leader and subject matter expert, playing a critical role in setting up messaging infrastructure for service delivery.
- Collaborate with various business teams to continuously evolve Bayobab’s core network platforms, enhancing customer experience and performance.
- Facilitate network governance processes with key stakeholders, participating in future strategic planning for innovation.
- Define planning tools, processes, standards, and roadmaps for messaging platforms.
- Review designs and functional requirements of messaging platforms to ensure all specifications are met.
- Ensure alignment of business system solutions with business goals and processes, working closely with business and technology leaders.
- Establish documentation, standards, and methodologies for messaging platforms and networks.
- Maintain budgetary control within the approved company plan.
- Ensure timely rollout of messaging platforms and related infrastructure.
- Meet key performance indicators (KPIs) tied to company objectives and customer satisfaction.

Job Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (B.Eng) or a relevant field (B.Sc preferred).
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Relevant certifications/accreditation and professional memberships required for the role.
- Fluency in English (knowledge of local language is beneficial).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in managing the implementation, integration, and operations of carrier-level applications and platforms.
- Functional experience in core platforms such as messaging, mobility, roaming, signaling, value-added services (VAS), and security.
- Knowledge of IP and CCNA certification is an advantage.
- Experience with virtualization, cloud-based technologies, and messaging hubs/platforms.
- Hands-on experience with SMS routing, hub, and firewall technologies.
- Familiarity with open connectivity roaming hubs and experience with Data Clearing Houses is highly valued.
- Expertise in GSM/LTE/5G network architecture and signaling systems (STP’s/DRA/DEA).
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end architecture and connectivity at the solution level, including core network, signaling, roaming, and VAS.
- Proficiency in signaling protocols and standards (e.g., CAMEL, GRX, GTP, DIAMETER, SIP, RTP, and GSM MAP).
- In-depth understanding of standard call flows for messaging, roaming VAS, and signaling services.
- Basic understanding of IPX and its role within carrier network infrastructure.
- Expertise in SMS/SMPP data solutions (A2P, P2A, P2P, RCS, etc.).
- Knowledge of billing systems, CDR’s, and TAP files.
- Familiarity with UNIX, Linux, Windows, and cloud-based technologies.
- Experience with virtualized environments (VNF’s) and APIs.
- Understanding of core platforms, unified communications, collaboration services, and security.
