Job Summary

The Head of Materials Management will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and cost-effective flow of materials throughout the supply chain, from procurement to production and customer delivery. The role involves developing strategic materials management plans, optimizing inventory, and ensuring operational excellence across all related functions. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in materials management within the FMCG or manufacturing industry, along with strong leadership and strategic planning skills.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Inventory Management:
    • Supervise inventory control activities to ensure optimal stock levels while minimizing excess or obsolete inventory.
    • Implement best practices and inventory management systems to enhance accuracy and operational efficiency.
    • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to inventory policies and procedures.
  2. Store Management:
    • Oversee daily operations of the materials store, ensuring proper storage, handling, and issuance of materials.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain order, efficiency, and compliance.
    • Monitor stock levels and collaborate with relevant departments to ensure timely replenishment.
  3. Weighbridge Operations:
    • Supervise weighbridge activities to ensure the accurate measurement and documentation of incoming and outgoing materials.
    • Develop and maintain weighbridge systems in line with industry standards.
    • Train and manage weighbridge operators to ensure accurate and efficient operations.
  4. Raw Sugar Management:
    • Oversee the procurement, storage, and distribution of raw sugar to maintain consistent production supplies.
    • Monitor the quality of raw sugar and coordinate with suppliers to address any quality concerns.
    • Implement strategies to minimize waste and optimize raw sugar usage.
  5. Warehouse Management:
    • Direct warehouse operations to ensure proper storage, handling, and distribution of materials.
    • Develop and implement warehouse management practices to improve efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain high safety and quality standards.
  6. Strategic Planning and Analysis:
    • Develop materials management strategies aligned with the company’s overall business objectives.
    • Analyze market trends and industry developments to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
    • Prepare detailed reports on materials management performance and present key metrics to senior management.
  7. Team Leadership and Development:
    • Lead and mentor the materials management team, providing training, guidance, and performance feedback.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration.
    • Identify team training and development needs to enhance overall capabilities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
    • A Master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable.
  2. Experience:
    • A minimum of 15 years of experience in materials management, inventory control, or supply chain management within the FMCG or manufacturing industry.
  3. Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of inventory management, store management, and warehouse operations.
    • Proficiency in ERP systems and inventory management software.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Leadership Skills:
    • Proven ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
