Canada-Based Nigerian Academic to Support 100 Students with Passports for Global Scholarship Opportunities

A Nigerian academic, Dr. Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi, currently residing in Canada, has launched a transformative initiative to assist 100 deserving students in obtaining their passports, an essential requirement for accessing scholarship opportunities abroad. This gesture is aimed at helping students who lack the financial means to secure the critical travel document, which often serves as a significant barrier to international opportunities.

Dr. Igbalajobi, a passionate advocate for education and global opportunities, announced that the application portal for this year’s passport support funds opened on December 1, 2024. Through this program, the academic hopes to ease the financial burden of securing passports for students with strong academic potential but limited resources.

A Broad Reach Across Africa

This initiative is not limited to Nigerian students alone. Dr. Igbalajobi stated that talented students from other African countries are also eligible to apply for the financial support. The project’s goal is to empower students across the continent to pursue scholarships and academic opportunities without being hindered by the lack of basic travel documentation.

“In 2025, we are excited to support over 100 highly talented students across Africa in securing their passports—an essential document for scholarship applications and global opportunities,” Dr. Igbalajobi explained.

Proven Success in Changing Lives

Dr. Igbalajobi’s commitment to education is not new. Over the past three years, his initiative has supported more than 300 students in securing passports, enabling them to study on various continents. Among the beneficiaries is Farida Zakariya, a trailblazer who became the first Nigerian to win the prestigious McCall MacBain Scholarship at McGill University in Canada. Her success is a testament to how small acts of support can lead to significant academic and professional achievements.

The program has also gained widespread recognition and appreciation from beneficiaries and supporters alike. Speaking about the initiative, one applicant shared their hope of becoming a recipient: “I will be a beneficiary by God’s grace,” while another expressed gratitude for the support provided by Dr. Igbalajobi, calling him an inspiration.

Encouraging Community Involvement

Dr. Igbalajobi has expressed his gratitude to those who have supported this initiative in the past and called on others to join him in this noble cause. “A special thanks to everyone who has supported this cause in the past. We will be reaching out again, and if you would like to support this initiative, I would be more than happy to connect with you,” he said.

Through his platform, Scholarship Cafe, Dr. Igbalajobi continues to connect students to scholarship opportunities and resources. He encourages interested students to make use of the application portal to apply for the passport support funds and take a step closer to achieving their dreams.

A Vision for the Future

As the program grows, Dr. Igbalajobi envisions a future where talented African students can access global opportunities without financial constraints holding them back. His initiative underscores the importance of removing practical barriers to education and creating pathways for students to reach their full potential.

This effort, rooted in a deep commitment to education and social impact, demonstrates how individuals can leverage their resources and platforms to create meaningful change in their communities and beyond.
