Job Overview:
The Specialist in Payment and Negotiation will be responsible for managing the negotiation of documentary presentations, trade loan bookings, bookkeeping, payments, and remittances related to negotiated presentations and matured trade loans. The role requires strict adherence to regulatory guidelines and industry standards while ensuring efficiency in financial transactions. The ideal candidate must possess a deep understanding of international trade regulations, banking operations, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the negotiation of documentary presentations and ensure accurate trade loan bookings, payments, and remittances.
- Ensure strict compliance with regulatory and industry standards, including Foreign Exchange Provisions, Uniform Customs and Practice (UCP), International Standard Banking Practice (ISBP), and other global trade regulations.
- Conduct thorough document examination, identify discrepancies, and ensure alignment with the terms and conditions of Letters of Credit.
- Facilitate trade loan processes, including booking, liquidation, interest collection, payable remittances, and charge administration.
- Manage revenue assurance processes related to negotiated documentation and trade loans, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
- Perform daily and periodic reconciliation of various accounts, including Nostro, Vostro, General Ledger (GL), suspense accounts, payables, and receivables, ensuring timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Prepare and submit regulatory, management, and ad-hoc reports as required for compliance and strategic decision-making.
- Maintain accurate data and records for negotiated presentations to facilitate regulatory audits and inquiries.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including business units and support teams, to address inquiries and resolve issues efficiently.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in any relevant discipline.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in trade finance functions within a banking or financial institution.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS), Certificate for Specialists in Demand Guarantees (CSDG), or Certificate in International Trade and Finance (CITF) are highly desirable.
- A Master’s Degree or additional professional certifications will be considered an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of international trade finance, banking regulations, and financial transaction management.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with trade agreements.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines in a dynamic financial environment.
- Proficiency in financial reconciliation processes and regulatory reporting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.
