Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the Acquiring Dispute team. As the Acquiring Dispute Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring that all chargeback claims are thoroughly examined for validity. This includes managing responses to chargeback disputes raised by other banks across multiple platforms, such as Arbiter, MasterCard Connect, and Unified Payment, with the goal of minimizing the bank’s financial exposure.

You will also provide leadership in guiding your team to ensure timely, accurate processing of chargebacks, and oversee refunds for legitimate claims, in alignment with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) guidelines on Acquirer Initiated Refunds (AIR). The role demands strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to identify process improvements that enhance operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Provide strong leadership to the Acquiring Dispute team, ensuring effective management of chargeback claims.
  • Dispute Management: Oversee the timely and accurate response to chargeback claims raised against the bank, using platforms like Arbiter, MasterCard Connect, and Unified Payment.
  • Chargeback Review: Ensure proper review of all chargeback claims to confirm their legitimacy, minimizing financial risks associated with disputes.
  • Refund Oversight: Supervise the processing of Acquirer Initiated Refunds (AIR) as mandated by CBN, ensuring that customer refunds are issued promptly for valid claims.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit detailed reports to the Unit Head, offering insights into chargeback activities and highlighting trends, issues, and recommendations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Identify and escalate urgent regulatory issues related to dispute resolution to ensure full compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess dispute resolution processes, suggesting improvements that can enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Reversal Uploads: Review and approve reversal upload files for customer account credits.

Job Requirements:

  • Educational Qualification: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or HND in any discipline, with a preference for numerate fields such as finance, accounting, or mathematics.
  • Relevant Experience: Previous experience working with electronic banking products and chargeback systems is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills and a proactive attitude toward learning and adapting to new systems and processes.
