Meta seeks a Public Policy Manager for Anglophone West Africa who is passionate about technology’s ability to create opportunities and drive connectivity in Africa, paired with expertise in the political and regulatory landscapes of key English-speaking West African countries.
In this role, as part of the Africa, Middle East, and Türkiye (AMET) policy team, you will help address crucial challenges and opportunities related to public policy. Areas of focus include new tech advancements like AI and the metaverse, privacy, safety, content standards, economic impacts of the internet, and fostering democratic engagement.
Responsibilities
Track policy developments impacting technology, social media, and market growth across Anglophone West Africa.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to address content-related issues on Meta’s platforms.
Contribute to Meta’s regional investment strategies and programs in Anglophone West Africa.
Promote Meta’s platforms for civic engagement in collaboration with policymakers, NGOs, and other influencers.
Partner with external stakeholders to design and implement regional policy initiatives.
Create policy briefings and prepare materials for presentations and meetings.
Represent Meta in discussions with government leaders and policymakers.
Build alliances to support significant policy matters.
Publicly present Meta’s stance on key policy topics to diverse audiences.
Advise on emerging policy issues.
Support the Sub-Saharan Africa policy team on additional priority issues.
Qualifications
Required
At least five years in government relations, legislation, or policy advocacy.
Strong understanding of West African political systems and related institutions.
Extensive experience living or working in Nigeria and/or Ghana.
Familiarity with critical policy issues, such as internet governance, content regulation, data privacy, human rights, and net neutrality.
Exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
High-level written and spoken English proficiency.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the region.
Enthusiasm for technology and Meta’s mission.
Preferred
Prior experience in policy roles within a multinational or civil society organization.
Proficiency in at least one Nigerian or Ghanaian language.
