Position Overview
As part of its strategic expansion and commitment to operational excellence, our organization is seeking a seasoned and highly skilled professional to join our mining operations team as an Assistant General Manager (AGM) specializing in Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM). The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing the deployment, operation, and maintenance of HEMM assets to ensure maximum safety, efficiency, and productivity in mining activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Oversight: Take charge of all day-to-day activities involving HEMM within the mining site, ensuring that operations are conducted in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner.
- Standard Operating Procedures: Design, implement, and continuously refine SOPs for HEMM operations aimed at enhancing performance, minimizing operational disruptions, and upholding safety standards.
- Equipment Monitoring: Regularly track machinery utilization, maintenance logs, and repair cycles. Coordinate closely with the maintenance division to ensure adherence to preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor HEMM operators, delivering consistent coaching, performance evaluations, and technical support to foster a culture of excellence and accountability.
- Maintenance Strategy: Develop and enforce a comprehensive preventive maintenance regime tailored to HEMM equipment to extend service life and minimize unscheduled breakdowns.
- Budget Management: Prepare and manage operational budgets for the HEMM unit, ensuring all financial planning aligns with organizational guidelines and cost-control policies.
- Process Optimization: Continuously assess operational workflows to identify inefficiencies. Propose and implement solutions that reduce equipment downtime and lower overall operational costs.
Candidate Profile
- Educational Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 21 years of progressive experience in the operation and management of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery, preferably within a mining or industrial environment.
- Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of HEMM equipment functions, operational protocols, and maintenance practices.
- Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage cross-functional teams, ensuring high levels of performance and morale.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong aptitude for diagnosing technical problems, interpreting data, and formulating effective solutions with keen attention to detail.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable interfacing with a wide range of internal departments and external partners.
