The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) is now accepting entries for the Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition 2025.
The competition, introduced to promote local talent and intellectual contribution to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, is open to 100 and 200 level undergraduates across public and private tertiary institutions in Nigeria—including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
Eligibility
To participate, applicants must:
- Be a 100–200 level undergraduate in a Nigerian university, polytechnic, or college of education.
- Submit an original essay written specifically for the competition.
- Provide proof of enrollment with either:
- A letter of admission, or
- A signed attestation letter from their Head of Department (HOD).
- Register and submit their essays online only at the official competition portal. (Hard copy submissions will not be accepted.)
Deadline for submissions: August 31, 2025
Prizes
- ₦1,000,000 for 1st place
- ₦700,000 for 2nd place
- ₦500,000 for 3rd place
- Laptops for all top 10 national finalists
In addition, the winning essay will be published in NCDMB’s Local Content Digest magazine, giving the author nationwide recognition.
Evaluation Criteria
Essays will be assessed on:
- Clarity of expression
- Grammar and spelling
- Originality of thought
- Depth of analysis
- Relevance to Nigeria’s oil and gas industry
- Compliance with contest rules
All submissions will be subjected to a plagiarism check.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a final interactive assessment on or before September 15, 2025, while the award ceremony will be held on September 26, 2025.
