The Providence Memorial Foundation is proud to launch the 2025 edition of its Undergraduate Scholarship Program, designed to support African students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance, leadership qualities, and a deep commitment to community development. This annual scholarship seeks to reduce financial barriers and empower the next generation of changemakers across English-speaking African nations.


About the Scholarship

The Providence Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship was established in memory of Providence Ebubechi Napoleon (née Okoye), whose life was marked by unwavering faith, compassion, and a spirit of service. In her honor, the Foundation is committed to nurturing students who not only excel academically but also embody the values she cherished—service, resilience, and dedication to personal and communal growth.


Scholarship Value and Duration

Each selected scholar will receive $250 per academic year, renewable annually for up to four years. In total, recipients can receive up to $1,000 throughout their undergraduate studies. The scholarship funding is flexible and may be used toward tuition, accommodation, or other approved educational expenses.


Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Identify as Black or of African descent.
  • Be a citizen of and studying in an English-speaking African country.
  • Must be currently enrolled in or have secured admission into an accredited undergraduate program.
  • Show evidence of academic achievement and potential for future excellence.
  • Demonstrate a passion for leadership, community service, and social impact.
  • Face financial challenges that may hinder access to higher education.
  • Exhibit qualities such as integrity, resilience, and a drive for personal growth.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Up to $250 annually, renewable for up to four years.
  • Funds can be used toward tuition, housing, or other academic-related costs.
  • Continued support is based on academic performance and conduct.

Application Requirements

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must prepare and submit the following:

  1. Completed Application Form
  2. One Letter of Recommendation
    • Must be written by a teacher, lecturer, community leader, or church official who can attest to the applicant’s character and potential.
  3. Proof of Enrollment or Admission
    • A document confirming current enrollment or official acceptance into an undergraduate program in an eligible African country.
  4. Academic Transcript
    • The most recent transcript from secondary school or university.
  5. Personal Essay (500–750 words)
    • Essay Topic: “How do you hope to create a legacy of compassion, faith, and dedication through your education, career, and personal life?”
  6. Resume or CV (Optional)
    • Summarize academic achievements, leadership experience, extracurricular involvement, and community service.
