Hello there! We’re on the lookout for remarkable young leaders who’ve been making waves in the world of democracy. If you know someone aged 18 to 30, who’s been exceptional in promoting or defending democracy, we want you to nominate them for the Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize’s second edition. This prize is a collaboration between the Kofi Annan Foundation and the Democracy and Culture Foundation, and we’re in search of real game-changers.
What’s in it for the nominees? Well, besides the prestige, they stand a chance to win a generous USD 10,000 prize. And there’s more – the award ceremony takes place at the Athens Democracy Forum, with travel and accommodation expenses covered. Winners also get to play a significant role in organizing a panel session on youth and democracy at the Forum the following year.
But it’s not just about the monetary reward and the spotlight. The Kofi Annan NextGen Democracy Prize is all about acknowledging those young minds making a tangible impact. We’re talking about those who’ve influenced policies, increased election participation, led groundbreaking campaigns, or spread awareness about democracy to a broader audience.
To throw a name in the ring, here’s what you need to know. Nominations must come from an organization, and the nominee should be between 18 and 30 years old. No restrictions on nationality, gender, or occupation – everyone is welcome. The Selection Committee will be looking into the nominee’s impact, innovation, sustainability, values, and the potential international recognition they could gain from the award.
To nominate, simply send an email to nominations@democracyculturefoundation.org by midnight CET on March 31, 2024. Your submission should include a completed form, a supportive cover letter (max 500 words), and a short video testimony from the nominee (keep it under 2 minutes, and a smartphone will do the trick).
