Apply for Young african leaders initiative 2024 -yali

The Regional Leadership Centres (RLCs) of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) actively promote the adoption of environmentally sustainable technologies to address the energy crisis prevalent across the African continent. In collaboration with Power Africa, the RLCs are partnering to present a design challenge tailored for women alumni engaged in the energy sector.

Those interested are invited to apply for a 12-week online program scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2024. The program features a practical online curriculum centered on green energy, sustainability, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants will follow the Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test approach in an experiential learning format to develop solutions for the Design Challenge.

Throughout the program, alumni will share their experiences and deepen their understanding of critical areas requiring enhanced sustainability practices and development. At the program’s conclusion, participants will present their ideas to a panel of judges, who will assess and determine the top three winners.

The challenge aims to highlight Africa’s innovative solutions for sustainable green energy, specifically inviting female alumni from the four YALI RLCs actively involved in the energy sector. A total of 24 outstanding individuals will be selected based on the submitted ideas to participate in the design challenge.

Benefits for winners include nominal funding for their project ideas and six months of coaching to assist them in developing prototypes.

The application procedure involves submissions starting on November 27, 2023, and running for three weeks until December 15, 2023. Selected participants will be announced on January 22, 2023. It is crucial to note that submissions serve as the basis for program participation. Once selected, participants will work on individual project ideas during the challenge, participating in interactive online learning sessions and assignments within different teams.
