The Africa’s Business Heroes Prize Competition, a philanthropic venture supported by the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Philanthropy, seeks to assist and empower the next generation of African entrepreneurs. The initiative provides grant funding, training programs, and support to foster the growth of an entrepreneurial ecosystem on the continent. Annually, the ABH Prize Competition features 10 entrepreneur finalists competing for a share of US$1.5 million over a span of 10 years.
Since its establishment in 2019, ABH has highlighted and supported exceptional African entrepreneurial talents. The top 10 finalists over the past five years have collectively generated 123,000 direct and indirect jobs, served over 37.5 million customers, raised over US$153 million, and operated in 52 African countries.
Entering its sixth year, ABH invites entrepreneurs from all 54 African countries, spanning various sectors, age groups, and genders, to submit their applications in English or French. The top 10 finalists will not only gain invaluable benefits such as training, exposure, and networking opportunities but will also compete for a share of the US$1.5 million grant money.
ABH continually explores effective ways to support participating entrepreneurs in advancing their businesses. The top 10 finalists will have access to a community of business leaders, innovators, industry experts, and investors, along with multi-disciplinary boot camps and training sessions.
To enhance engagement and facilitate applications, ABH will conduct roadshows in multiple countries, collaborating with local entrepreneur organizations and community members. These events, held in countries like Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia, aim to provide participants with insights into the ABH initiative, improving their chances of success.
Further details about roadshows and information sessions will be communicated through ABH’s official social media channels and newsletters. Applications for ABH 2024 are open until May 19, 2024. The top 50 finalists will be announced in July, followed by the revelation of the top 10 in September, and the final winners will be unveiled at the Grand Finale in November.
