The African Union’s AIP Youth Fellowship and Mentorship program is designed to empower young leaders to advocate for water investment across Africa. This initiative focuses on fostering job creation through gender-inclusive investments in water security, climate-resilient development, and industrialization.
Participants in the AIP Youth Fellowship will receive €6,000 in living stipends for the program duration. Fellows will engage with a team of experts in a diverse, international environment, gaining hands-on experience and mentorship across various projects.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the AIP Youth Fellowship, candidates should have:
A strong motivation to support the AU’s “Mind the Gap – Invest in Water” campaign, with an eagerness to be mentored and learn from peers.
A Master’s degree (or PhD preferred) in fields relevant to AIP and GWP Africa’s work, completed within the last 3-5 years.
Postgraduate students (Master’s or PhD) nearing completion (within 6 months) are also eligible and may need a reference letter from their academic supervisor.
Solid knowledge in areas such as international and regional development, gender equity, water resource management, climate change, sustainable development, and climate finance.
Proficiency in English; additional languages such as French or Portuguese are advantageous.
Citizenship or residency in an AU Member State, with priority for nationals or residents of specific countries, including Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Tunisia, and others.
Benefits
Duration: The fellowship runs for 12 months.
Compensation and Opportunities:
Fellows will work on AU-led AIP projects, gaining access to a vast professional network both regionally and globally.
Upon completion, fellows will receive a certificate and recommendation letter from the AU and GWP Africa. High-performing fellows may receive introductions to professional partners for further opportunities.
Some outstanding fellows may be offered roles in AIP or related regional programs.
Fellows receive a monthly stipend of €500 for incidental expenses; however, no additional financial allowances are provided. There is also a volunteer option for those who wish to join without a stipend.
